Game 27 Recap
The Dash continued their winning ways with an 8–6 victory over Greensboro Thursday. Winston-Salem and Greensboro duked it out but the Dash’s four homers were key in the win. Matthew Fraizer led off the game with a home run to put the Grasshoppers up 1–0 early. Aaron Shackleford sent another ball over the right field wall in the third for a two-run jack to extend the lead to 3–0. Taylor Varnell started the game for the Dash and tossed four innings of three-run ball with five strikeouts. The Dash finally jumpstarted their offense in the fifth with four runs by way of a Lazaro Leal RBI double, Ian Dawkins two-run homer and an RBI triple from Alex Destino for a 4–3 lead. Fraizer countered with his second homer of the game in the fifth to tie the game at 4. The balls continued to leave the yard when Duke Ellis hit a two-run homer in the sixth followed by a pair of solo homers from Alex Destino and Luis Curbelo in the seventh for an 8–4 Dash lead. The Grasshoppers put up a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth inning but it was too little too late. Lane Ramsey shut the door in the ninth to record his third save of the season for the 8–6 win.
Former Texas Longhorn Duke Ellis has been on a tear during the Greensboro series. Ellis has gone 5-for-12 with a pair of homers, four runs batted in, two doubles and a stolen base.
After hitting a pair of homers in the series opener Tuesday, Alex Destino sent another ball out of the park, totaling three homers so far in the series. The outfielder from South Carolina is top five in the High-A East in homers (6), runs batted in (20) and triples (2).
AND IT WAS ALL ‘BELO
Luis Curbelo hit his eighth ‘Belo Bomb’ of the season Thursday. Curbelo is now tied in first place in homers in the High-A East. The third baseman is top five in the High-A East in runs batted in (24), and slugging (.600).
Johan Dominguez will make his sixth start of the season for the Dash Friday. In his last two starts, Dominguez is 2–0 with 11 innings pitched, four hits allowed, one earned run and eight strikeouts. Dominguez looks to pick up his third win Friday.
